Finding Appreciation Behind Bars

Aug 09, 2012

The Beat Within

I appreciate the stone bed we sleep on, instead of the dusty floor I was calling a bed. I appreciate the nasty food we get to keep our stomachs quiet. I, despite the cruel things my parents have done to me, appreciate that they visit me everyday, bringing me fashion magazines every time.

Another thing that comes with appreciation is being able to look on the bright side. You will never make it in here, or in life if you focus on the bad. I make each day the best day I can. It helps me survive in here. I’m thankful for this experience.

Take a minute to ask yourself, what makes me lucky? What am I appreciative of?

There is always somebody in the world that wishes they could be living like you. Somebody would kill to have your life, despite how bad you may think your life is. Somebody out there has it worse off than us. So remember that, and truly appreciate everything you have, even the bad experiences because they only make us stronger.

    The Beat Within

My Dear Child, Congratulations on making the Honor Roll! I am very proud of you! I knew you could raise your grades. Your mom told me that you have a 3.5 grade point average now, which means you are averaging around a B+. That’s very good, and you should be happy about this accomplishment.
